In the mid-1950s, regionalism rose in international literature. In the Middle East and Persian Gulf regional issues draw attention of theorists in the late 1960s. At first, regionalism aimed to organize political will of regional leaders towards to organize political will, while regionalism in the Middle East and Persian Gulf concentrated on the security affairs. This paper inspects contending approaches and evaluates different way to pass behind the security dilemma and transition into the Persian Gulf. In doing so, the conflicting, balanced, regulative and critical approaches are examined.

Region of the Middle East, more than anything else, shows crisis and conflict. This region's past is symbolized by insecurity. World War II, war between Arabs and Israel, three wars in Persian Gulf, frequent civil wars, all of which have contributed to the rise of Islamic fundamentalists in the Middle East. Thus, security constituted the core of discourse in the Middle East. However, most of the security approaches for the study of this strategic region has failed to give a true understanding of dilemma. Thus, it seems that the study of the present dilemma in the Middle East requires another approach which directs us towards post-modern approach. The purpose of this study is to employ post-modern approach in studying the Middle East dilemma. So, main question raised in this research is how Post-modern approach can solve security dilemma in the Middle East. This study, by the use of Foucault's genealogy, leads us to a new discourse which equips us with a better understanding of present dilemma. This new discourse concentrates on the security of identity instead of resorting to violence for solving or preventing conflict among diverse ethnic groups or people in the Middle East.

Authors of this research have tried to understand the role of security dilemma in the context of Iran-Saudi Arabia Rivalry. The main question is that how security dilemma has impacted the rivalry between Iran and Saudi Arabia. This research, based on rational theory of international relations, finds that security dilemma between Iran and Saudi Arabia in the post-Islamic Revolution era is much more severe than pre-Islamic Revolution but the moderate level of security dilemma between Iran and Saudi Arabia in the pre-Islamic Revolution had a determining impact on lack of deep and serious cooperation between the two countries. The severe level of security dilemma between Iran and Saudi Arabia in the post-Islamic Revolution era has had a facilitating impact on rivalry between the two countries.
